Navigating The Fourth Trimester: Making Sure Mom Doesn't Miss Her Own Feeding Time

“The fourth trimester” is a term that refers to the transformative 12 weeks after the birth of your baby. A time full of emotional and physical changes that can be overwhelming.

Parents have to take care of themselves as well in order to properly care for a newborn, but that can feel impossible running on low energy from not sleeping.

Tips to feel more rested in order to get by:

  1. Sleep when the baby sleeps

  2. Share nighttime duties with a partner if possible

  3. Try to go to bed early

  4. Try to learn more about your baby’s sleep patterns

  5. Try to do more exercise

  6. Try relaxation exercises

  7. Try to find ways to cope with stress

  8. Be aware of signs of postnatal depression like trouble sleeping and tiredness

  9. If you’re really struggling, try reaching out to a doctor or helpline

  10. Get extra support

Friends and relatives can be an excellent source of support, especially when it comes to looking after the baby while you sleep. However, sleep is just one of many ways new parents need to support themselves, and single parents especially can have a hard time figuring out how to do everything.

Enter personal chefs. Not only can they be relied upon to take a load off new parents, they can even prepare meals specifically designed to increase energy or promote lactation. If you need help, learn more about how to hire a chef here.
